Two Short Essays Page Description

The first essay, The Internet as a Vehicle for Political Reform, looks at some of the effects of Internet access on authoritarian regimes.  This writing examines the case of Liu Xiaobo, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize while serving time in a Chinese prison for participating in the publishing of Charter 08.  This document, available on the Internet, sets out an orderly transition to a democratic government for the Peoples Republic of China.

The second essay, Double Indemnity, is a review of the 1940’s film and its role in the Film Noir style.  It looks at the characters and the risks that the actors assumed in taking these roles, as well as the risks that the director, Billy Wilder, took.  Also examined are the moral undercurrents that help make this film a classic.
