Bayou Blues is a one and a half minute animation of a story that I came up with while walking my dog one morning. My assignment was to animate a conflict involving three characters. One of my inspirations for this story is the song Gris-Gris Gumbo Ya Ya by Dr. John Creaux.
The short animation, The Swallows Have Left Capistrano, is about the swallows that used to nest in the eaves of Mission San Juan Capistrano, and their friend, the monk Francis. He has the ability to speak with the birds, and one of them, named Ave (pronounced ah-vey), tells him why she longer comes to nest at the mission. The idea for the story came to me after reading a news article about how the swallows that once came to the mission in large numbers no longer return to the mission.
I created these animation using Flash and some sound recordings. Then, I exported the animation to frame-by-frame images, reassembled it in Final Cut, saved it as a QuickTime movie, and uploaded it to YouTube.
